My 12 year old son has seen live action porn, and I am so disturbed by this.He has a blocked account but his friend had told him about a web site and he was waiting for a chance to go online. My husband had just used his account and even though you log off, your account still stays active for a few minutes and you can jump on without a password. We had to go do some errands and my son wanted to stay home, so we left the second my husband got off the computer and my son ran to the computer room and got on while the account was still active.
I only found out because when I got home he was on the computer on a game and I thought something was up right away. The speakers were on the lower level even with his ears and the monitor was pulled to the edge, like he stuck his face into the center of all three. Then I saw that when I made him get off the computer he didn't close out of his IM screen with one of his buddies. On the IM he says "my parents just left, I am going on --.com", his friend replied "no don't go on there". It was not the full name of the site, but I became VERY suspicious. I new it was something sneaky and wrong.
My son has been banned from the computer for a month. I told my husband he has to make sure he completely shuts down the computer after every use.
Thats not the only problem, its what he was exposed to.
I looked up the site and was shocked at what I had seen, my sons pure at heart nature, now has live action hardcore sex running around his mind. My kids have never watched anything more than PG13. This makes me sick to my stomach that he seen something horrible. I could tell by the look in his eyes when I confronted him that he wish he never seen it either.
Do I just drop it, ban him from the computer and let him know this is not appropriate for him to look at or talk to him about what he saw? I just want the memory to fade out of his mind of what he saw.

I think maybe you are taking things a bit too far to be honest, he is a 12 year old kid.....he is curious....it's very natural for them to do that...i think banning for a month is a bit far. And the look in his eyes was more reaction over how upset you were and guilty you made him feel.
I would ban him from the internet as punishment just so he would understand you have rules he has to follow. We won't even go into all the viruses and nasty bugs you can get on your computer for going to those kind of places.

Depends on the operating system. If she is running say a mac....or a linux one like ubuntu then no.

I think it is appropriate for you to take his computer access away because he did something he should not have done. However, I do think your reaction to what he saw is a bit extreme. 12 year old boys are very curious about girls and sex. It's pretty normal for him to want to find out more.
I think you have handled it well. Just keep on top of him to make sure it doesn't happen again. But don't waste time worrying. I would talk to him just to get an idea of how he is reacting to what he saw.
I don't think the memory is going to fade out of his mind anytime soon. I think you should ban him from the computer for 6 months and only allow him to do his homework on it.

It's normal curiousity, don't assume he's ruined. A month's banning from the computer is a long time, I wouldn't go any further than that. And unless your son knows how to delete the computer's history, you can click history at the menu bar at the top of your internet screen, and see what sites he has been going to in the future.
