My wife and I laugh over this, but I think its caused some division in the family.
I think this is a common scenario.

Funny, in my family my daughter looks like my husband but has my personality, and my son looks like me but has my husband's personality.

its so funny. My cousin (who i never had much contact with growing up as she lived 4 hours away and with her mother who was divorced from my uncle) just had a baby and it's my grandmas first great-grandchild so she is very excited to show pictures. However, she failed to miss why everyone is a tad shocked. See we are Italian and we look it very much with the dark hair and dark eyes (so is the mother) and she married a black man. Their baby is blonde hair blue eyed. I know african american babies take some time to develop their pigment sometimes but it's been months. I keep telling my grandma that she looks like the post man, which she kind of misses every time. I just think it's some weird genetic combination that they somehow gave the baby all their recessive genes. Either that or the baby might get a bit darker with age (her husband is very dark skinned)

It is not that unusual for black people to have fair children. Even caucasian if there are some or one caucasian genes in there somewhere. There is a brish couple, both black I believe to have 2 different sets of twin girls with one girl being caucasian and the other black. Incredible odds of that happening. There is a famous ex Soap Star, Victoria ??? used to play Drucilla on Y&R and she had a white, fair child.

I get this all the time. My daughter wasn't even a week old when the "grandma wars" started. As if anyone can tell whose nose she has at that age.
Now at the ripe old age of 4, her features are a nice combination of me and her father, so we just say that everyone is right.

I REALLY wanted to rep you, but I have to spread it around first.

I can openly and easily say he looks just like my husband (with some things that also resemble me and his brother, but mostly he looks like his dad) and only then did she start saying my oldest looks like.....MY BROTHER! Still not me! lol
Yeah I get a little bit of that from my MIL. However, she told my WIFE that as our son gets older, he is starting to look like me, but she wont EVER say that to me!!!! Strange and sad!

I would get a DNA test. Like pronto! Does the baby, at least, have any of his features? Whats the nose like.

I'm telling you some people do this in order to put the other parent down. Everyone wants their kids to look like them. Especially the mothers. I constantly get told that my youngest and my oldest look like my husband. The middle child clearly looks like me but for some reason people don't point that out they just don't say anything
Some lady saw my almost 3 year old and she said "Wow she's tall. she's going to be tall like her Daddy". So I'm 5"5 and I guess that qualifies as a midget because the lady looked me up and down and then made her little remark. My husband is 5"10 not exceedingly tall for a man

The reason I made this post is because I think my wife's family does what people do to you. I think they want to annoy me by saying the baby looks like her. While I wont get into specifics, my wife and I look VERY different because of her ethnicity. She has a super pointy russian italian nose, and I have a flat-ish american indian nose and dark eyes. The boy has my nose, eyes and eyelashes. He is light like her but he may get darker because my Dad is VERY dark while my mom is light-ish. Time will tell. But its clear they want the baby to look like her. Heck, I want him to look like me!

The only concession they ever made was, a few weeks ago, when I was not around, her mom said "as he gets older, the baby looks like [insert my name]" - My wife told me about this later when she got home.

So, this isn't just a minor differing of opinions, you think they are trying to annoy you with their comments. You are looking for problems in your relationship with your wife's family by finding yet more things to complain about.

If you're going to go about looking for things to get resentful over, where your inlaws are concerned, you're going to have one miserable existence for the next 18 years.
