if only my daughter were still in a crib!! she learned to climb out before age 2 but moms in my playgroup still have their kids in a crib and they are 3.
they are all talking about moving to a big bed soon, so I'd say somewhere between
2 1/2 to 3
milk the crib for all its worth! mine slept better and I could keep her "contained"
its been damn near impossible to get her to nap since shes in her big bed, she just plays and goofs around!
I always thought typically between 1 & 1/2 to two years old. But mine refused to leave his crib until he was about 3 & 1/2. He probably liked the routine and the sense of security. I later learned he has mild autism. So I'd say it really depends on the child. I didn't force mine to give up his crib until he was ready.
At what age do babies out grow their cribs and move into a toddler bed?
My ds climbed out of his crib right around 20 months. I was on the phone with our realtor when I saw him standing in the kitchen when he should have been taking a nap.
We were in the process of moving & converted his crib to a full bed when he was 22 months.
Never have had any problems & he adjusted fine.
He does have one of those bar things on the side of his bed to keep from falling out if he rolls over too far.
I'd say once they start climbing out of the crib it's time to move them. My son was about 21 months. My daughter never slept in a crib... we coslept with her until she was 2, and then she transitioned easily into a toddler bed. If a child was happy and not climbing out of a crib, though, then I'd easily keep them in it until they turned 3!
Definitly keep them in the crib until it is a must to move them out...my kids climbed out around 14 months old...so we had to make the transition because they had a risk of climbing over and falling on their heads...IF they had not learned how to climb out I would have kept them both in their cribs until I could have....
Toddler bed = a lot more freedom= less sleep for mom.
At what age do babies out grow their cribs and move into a toddler bed?
Whenever they are ready. Neither of my children climbed out of their crib. In fact my 4.5 year old is still in her crib! Late? Yes. Do I care? No. She feels safe and secure in there for some reason. She can still fit comfortably and that's where she'll stay until she's ready. Her bed is ready and waiting for her.
DS moved out right around 2 yearsold ...primarily because DD was getting too big for the bassinet and needed to move in. Even in a 'big boy bed' DS would not get out....he would sit on the bed calling "Mommy...I awake!!" until I came to pick him up.
