You know what's weird about this mega church trend in the south. My mother was from West Virginia. Small church. We lived in some towns in the South when I was little. Small churches. We moved to Pittsburgh and our church was big. It had/has a couple thousand members. Catholic. She felt so lost. Chuches used to be small in the south. They felt like family. At least that was our experience.
How can people enjoy these big churches? I guess the assigned seating helps people get to know one another. But it's like a class system when people are seated according to what they can pay. That's just so wrong.
Ok so i've gone from sleeping 15 hours a day to now sleeping 4 hours, currently going on those 4 hours and now I can't sleep at all. I don't want to be up THIS late...I am 2 or 3am at the latest..its currently 6:02am
Our mega churches are losing membership. People out here are going back to the smaller type churches.
I can see why. These megachurches have huge revenues, and the pastors earn in the millions. And as someone mentioned above no sense of community, and it would be difficult to meet people. That said as far as I know Mormon temples have assigned seating, I wonder how they assign?
My sister lives in Mississippi - I know she goes to church, but I don't think it's very large. She does goes mostly for the social aspect. That's a big thing in the south - and the always asking what church you go to. I wouldn't do well either, obviously!
Greetings! It's finally the weekend! Yay!. I have a cold so I am taking it easy this weekend. I did go see Lady Gaga last night in Newark. I really enjoyed it. It's like a movie I would love to watch over and over again. I actually wish I had tickets to the long island show tonight.
However a lot of people had kids there. Not like 14 years olds, which yeah there where and yeah it was vulgar but I guess they have probably heard those words before. But would you really want your 6 year old hearing "Newark has big c*ck" I just hate when I see parents obviously dragging their kids to a concert like that. And they had to pay for a ticket for the show which ain't cheap.
I think our son was possibly 10 or 11 the first time we took him to a concert. I can't even remember now who it was. We're into hard rock.
But you'd be shocked then at what we see almost every time we go - people with babies - babies! I shake my head every time - and I can't believe they even let them in in the first place....
As far as younger children - I think many parents are clueless as the the difference between what they hear on the radio and what a concert would actually be like. Not sure if it's different with pop - but what we listen/go see, there is the "radio" version then the "real" version. I know whatever we saw when our son was that young was rather tame (although I remember the crowd wasn't - that's a whole different story).
He's 17 and is still willing to go with us. I think the one we are going to in July though will probably be the last
The crowd at this concert was probably 97% female mostly in the 18-30 range. A lot of costumes! Everyone was dressed up. Lots of girls in leotards. Lots of girls who shouldn't off been in leotards.
