Totally worth it IMO...it also helps out if you've managed to burn something or the oven is smoking from cheese from frozen pizza that has dripped or you have forgotten why cooking fish inside isn't a great idea....

We have separate AC units for upstairs and down, so my open window quirk isn't isn't quite as wasteful as it may seem. I think the best sleep situation is with good cross ventilation and window fans. These houses in the south aren't built with cross ventilation in mind though.

You're right Mattie, these homes are built with only A/C in mind. If A/C is out in our house the upstairs gets to 100 easily. We have blown in more insulation in the attic, and that helps. We have a whole house fan, but seldom use it. DS has allergies, so it's windows closed and A/C on for us.

ETA: Also have to keep all the heating/cooling people in business around here. We have 3 A/C units and 3 pumps, there's always one that needs something.

Buenos dias. Our a/c is set at 80-82 most of the time. Though on the 105 plus days I turn it down to 76ish when the sun goes over the house. The bedrooms have west facing windows and that's not a good thing. Turn it back up to 80 about 8pm.

I chuckled to myself all evening long. Every time I thought of our Mattie looking for a hot god and finding Larry Sr. I had to laugh. Poor Mattie. I hope we didn't cause permanent damage.

It pulls out all the hot stuffy air and pulls in the fresh cooler air. It's great - although if someone is having allergy issues we avoid it ...
We don't really have an attic - just a tiny crawl space above one room. I need to get a fan to to put in front of a window to pull the cool air in quicker at night.

Our electric here is relatively cheap because we get it through the city. Our last bill was $160 and that was for electric, water (we've watered a lot), trash pick up and recycling.

I am excited. I can't wait. I don't mind getting older at this point right now because and this is going to sound funny....maybe my body/facial features will start to look older in the next few years and I won't look like I am 16 at 24, I'd like to look 24 at 24, no hope of looking my age at 22 but I can hope for the next few years to even out a bit.

I don't care much about birthdays. Truth be told I can never remember how old I am, sometimes I have to work it out. I know, it sounds truly pathetic. With the big 50 looming, at least it will be easier to remember.
I love my birthday. I wanna do something fun this year. Now with TG in my life I will have someone to drink with me on my birthday and this years party is going to be awesome.

Wow - that's great jk - our last electric bill was about $100; garbage collection (not including recycling) is about $75 per quarter and water/sewer is probably about $150/mo - we try not to water too much - maybe 2-3X/week depending on how dry it is out.

I guess you're not too worried about having no job or place to live then? If the main thing on your mind at this point is your birthday and who you're going to drink with and having a party......Guessing you're also feeling better.

My thoughts exactly mm. Dare we mention all the coin she'll spend on booze instead of putting it aside for when Mom puts her out on the streets.

Or making a car payment. Unless of course she's still "selling stuff on ebay" to pay bills. In which case, she had a heck of a lot of "stuff" worth good money laying around....Oh well, I guess that is all between her grandmother (who apparently supports everyone in that family), the mom and txt. Glad it's theirs to deal with and not me.

I can't help but think, if txt had enlisted in some branch of the military after high school, she'd be about out by now, maybe with some MP experience and GI cash for college/police academy, as well as had a full time job with benefits for the last 4 years...but I digress.
