Morning all - DS starts back to school this week - tomorrow is his first actual day of classes but he has some admin type activities he needs to take care of today....DD came home Saturday and we spend all day yesterday shopping...
I hear you all on the hair. I colored my own for years and at some point last year just decided I was done and decided to have someone else mess with it. My hair grows fast and it is almost totally gray so it does have to be done regularly. On the plus side, the root touch ups are less expensive than the initial all-over color and probably better than continually recoloring my whole head of hair. I also don't have my friends cut my hair. One of my good friends is a stylist but I go to someone else. I tend to have stylist ADD, get bored and change so I just can't have a personal tie to a stylist.
Good luck today rkb with your salon visit!
I have to catch up with chores today - I was busy with other stuff all weekend and now have a mess on my hands.

I wish I could be as carefree about stylists. My first stylist was fantastic. He was the first person who cut my hair in Pittsburgh at 5 years old. I stayed with him until he died in my early 30s. Even when I lived in other cities, I'd come home to get my hair done. He was that talented! I haven't been able to find anyone else who is as good as he was. When someone screws up my hair, I won't get it cut for a year because I feel like I need to grow it out or I'll end up with short hair. It matters more when I'm trying for a shoulder length cut. With it being halfway down my back, like it is now, mistakes are more forgiving. That's probably why it turned out okay when I did it myself. Plus, I only took off the smallest amount, not even 1/4".
I had a stylist for over 10 years before me moved. I haven't found one here that I just love. I even went back to my old one when we were visiting at Christmas once.
I tend to have challenging hair. It's short-ish and has a good amount of body and I have a ton of it. I can't let it just go for awhile to grow stuff out - I end up with a big mess of big, gray hair. I find that after awhile, if I've been going to a stylist for a few years, they tend to get stuck in a specific cut and when I'm ready for a change, no matter what I ask, I end up with a version of what they've been doing all along. That's when I tend to bolt.
Yeah, I also struggle to find stylists who can cut curly hair well.
That really can be challenging. Fortunately (for me anyway - because my hair wasn't totally curly - just kind of curly. And more on one side than the other), as I've aged, my hair has become less curly and more just wavy. It's definitely easier than it used to be. For me - just getting someone who can thin it properly so it hangs down instead of poofing out has been so nice. I always anticipate sticking with a stylist but have yet to stay with one for more than a few years. Right now I'm liking my latest one. She really does seem to "get" what I'm looking for...I just hope the salon stays in business. It's fairly new.
I hear you. Around here to get a good cut and color is about $120 .
I'd pay that in a heartbeat! A cut and highlights cost me between $160 and $240.
I thought it was a deal when DS's friend only cost me $120 (cut, full color, and highlights), but I got what I paid for since she didn't have experience.
Oooo... then I ain't gonna mention how much my last LA hair cut cost.

I know, crazy. But I live in the burbs of GA, everything is theoretically cheaper around here. I also don't get styled, I walk out with wet hair.
