How can someone live in a shed in the winter?

Your house sounds big enough that there must be another room you can make his.

Don't you have a finished basement? A study? An office? Something that could be made into a bedroom for him?

It isn't a build it self style shed with steel sheets. It is a solid framed shed, similar to garage but smaller. He just put in insulation and a wall panel up, put in a carpet and plug socket and sleep with a lot of blankets. I cannot say I'd sleep in it if I had choice, but that is just me. Gus seems fine with it.

Pretty impressive for a 16 year-old. He sounds like a real go-getter. The more I hear about him the more I like him.

Seems he is desperate to get out of the house. Did you discuss with him before you combined households? Not that that would help now, but maybe osmeone in the future will read this and not be blindsided by a family that isn't blending as well as they dreamed.
