My friends son is graduating high school next month and I have no clue what to get for a gift. I would like to keep the cost under $50 or so... any unique ideas??

You'll find very nice and unique gifts in "Things to remember". I love their personalized class album and frames. Here's is the link for the near store to you. Good luck!.

Is he going off to college? If so get him gift card(s) for local eating places, gas stations or shops near college.

Cash or Visa gift cards work well for any graduate and often are preferred.

If you don't want to go the cash/gift card route, then maybe go for something you can personalize. That will depend on what he's doing next, for instance school t-shirts or sweat shirts if he's going off to college.

If he is a guy that already has photographs around, then a collage for a dorm or office wall. If not, then maybe a small album.
If he will be doing his own laundry, laundry bag, detergent. softener and roll of quarters.

There's tons of ideas out there, but I can tell you both my daughters got more use out of cash/gift cards than anything else.

For a boy I would go with cash or a gift card. Depending on the individual I like to enclose with a personal note and a copy of the Dr. Seuss classic Oh The Places You'll Go!

Some of the more unusual things my kids have received:
A summer pass thingy to a favorite movie theatre.
Tickets, for two, to a three day music event being held in our area.
Car care kits/ emergency roadside assistance pkg to go with the second hand cars they got for graduation.
I'd also ask your friend if she has any suggestions, or ask if there is any activity or hobby that he is particularly fond of doing that might inspire ideas for you.

Tool kits are great ideas - very helpful in the dorm.

We gave one niece an engraved silver box for jewelry. For the other, we gave a diabolo and devil sticks. The one loved her box, but the other had a blast taking the games to college with her. When she was stressed or bored, she went outside and played with them. She always had a group of people around her. For the boys, we gave Leatherman tools.
