I wanted to have kids because I loved my husband and saw creating a new life together as an extension of that love.
I've never really thought of having children as being selfish. Children take so much more from you than they give (at least in the early years) that having children and raising them well is the least selfish thing a person can do.
Reading other threads here, I've seen numerous references to "unselfish reasons" for having children. Other than "I want to have children" (selfish) or "I happened to get pregnant" (not selfish but not selfless either) I've never seen a reason to have children that was truly altruistic.

Well, reality was that number one was an accident, wife on birth control. Number two was an accident, who would have though birth control would fail twice? Number three ended up being somewhat planned.

Of course, what we didn't know was that my wife had some wacked out hormones that resulted in the pill occasionally promoting feritility, not preventing it, lol.
