Good for her. Sounds to me like she just happened upon these postings, not that she went looking for them. Easy to do on FB. Let this be a lesson to these teens.

Social pressure is the only way to keep some people from being total idiots. A little humilation goes a long way. I wish we didn't feel so embarassed to use it on each other.

I cannot applaud her decision strongly enough! This is one of those amazingly rare instances that restores my faith that there are decent, moral, and principled (is that a word?) people in this world.

FB is a cesspool in which I refuse to participate for so many reasons. In this case, it's a mirror of the ugliness of human nature for so many who do use it.

How do you know it's a cesspool if you don't use it? I've been on it for three years and never have had an issue.

I couldn't agree more, that's why I closed my account.

I've many co-workers who are on constantly, discussed it with them at length, and have seen it frequently enough to make such an assessment.

Good for her, and I agree..

People think it is all fun and games on FB, but in reality a lot of people do things that maybe someone somewhere will remember and it will come to kick you in the ass at one time.

What is it with everyone these day's having to post every single solid thing they do...............doesn't interest me in the least.

I expect that says something about the people using it. Personally, I've found that, as long as I'm a bit particular about with whom I spend my time (and isn't that a good idea anyway, in the long run?) it's an easy way to check in with friends in earthquake-beset areas, to see photos of friends and family hundreds of miles away, to keep in touch with others members of groups I belong to, and to maintain casual relationships with friends from old neighborhoods, college, and high school without having to invest more time than either of us wants.

Or it can be used to post ridiculousness, or to spread vitriol. The medium isn't so much the problem as the message-sender.

I agree completely. I use FB almost daily. I only post maybe once per month if I am doing something unusual, or the mood strikes me. I use it mainly to keep up to date with old friends from school, or other unimportant things. I think it is fun. It is also much quicker than talking to all of thos individual people in one day. I can find out in 5 minutes that my sister got a cute new haircut (with pictures), a friend from school is pregnant with twins, another old friend just gave birth, another friend is moving back to the area, my niece just got the lead in the school play, etc. I can catch up with a couple dozen people in 5 minutes when it would take much longer and I wouldn't get pictures if I talked to them over the phone. My FB friends are basically the same as me.

I do find it really sad that so many people use Facebook to bully others. They feel so tough sitting behind a computer. I am proud of this photographer for taking a stand. If more people would do that, maybe the bullying would stop. Besides that, too many people don't think about the fact that their posts will be online FOREVER. Their future bosses, kids, grandkids, etc will all be able to pull up their posts from when they were 16 and realize what idiots they were.

LOL Ok.

What makes it such a cesspool?
