A Southern California man allegedly hit his crying 7-year-old son and then threw him off on a tour boat in busy Newport Harbor, Orange County, authorities said Tuesday.

Sloane Briles, 35, of Irvine, California, has been charged with felony child endangerment and resisting arrest, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said. He was released Monday in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

See, this is why I knew I would never make a good cop. There are just some people who need to be taken out to the street and shot.

Don't know what I would do if I saw this happening. I probably would have lost it when he was beating the kid on the boat for crying. If he tossed him over, I'd be really torn between jumping in after the kid and beating the living crap out of the "father". Assuming other people were helping the kid, I think I would volunteer to administer the beating. It would be a good lesson for my kids. "See kids, some people really do just deserve to have their arses beat despite all the wishy-washy BS your school teaches you."

I was tempted to make a separate thread for this, but my threads generally don't go over very well...

in most of these countless numbers of cases, IMHO the problem is selfishness. many are not prepared to be parents. little kids are noisy, messy, and demanding-- and people who are ready to take on the responsibilities of parenting know these are parts of the "package deal."

Amen to that. There is just absolutely no reason at all to hit your child and throw him off a boat.

Of course there is. What if the kid was on fire. First you beat out the flames, then you toss him overboard to make sure they are out.

I'm sure he was very lucky they got there when they did. I can't imagine ANYONE standing idly by while something like that happened.

Some people really should never have kids. They just aren't emotionally cut out for it.
