I'm pretty free about throwing myself on those that involve protecting innocent children.
I do not understand how not allowing an 8 year old to wear girl's clothes at home is protecting them? From whom or what are you protecting. I don't understand.
And, this will ruin much of my credibility, but when I used to see the Grateful Dead, I'd see men in long, flowing skirts... ay, yi, yi. Muscles and confidence, yum. I can personally verify the um... masculinity of a couple of those fellows!
You have to be pretty secure in your manhood in order to wear a skirt. Make of that what you will.
And there is nothing sexier than a man with a pair of well muscled legs in a kilt (a skirt) wearing a sporran (a purse).
Clothes are just a function of social norms and children do not innately conform to social norms. There is nothing wrong with this little boy wanting to wear these things. Lots of things are rejected by social conservatives, just because they are conservative, and then become acceptable and even valuable later on. Things like desegregation, educating women, etc.

Dammit I really should read through these things first. But you cannot leave out the sporran! The purse that put the MAN in man bag.
