The inconvenience and ridiculousness of fixed sided cribs nowadays.

My old drop side cribs where a blessing. Easy to get kid in and out, handy for dressing/changing, convenient for stripping crib bedding on laundry day.

Post your pros/cons.

I'm short and drop-side cribs are way easier on the back.... (babysat for kid with one, my daughter had fixed side )

When my sister was a baby (40 yrs ago) my mom came up to check on her before turning in and found her head stuck in the rails with her body hanging out. More to do with the rails being too far apart but it could have ended tragically.

Kids have died in dropside cribs.

Heard too many safety concerns about them (fingers getting trapped and things like that) to get one. I just had the base up on a higher level until my baby could pull up to stand so I didn't have to bend right down to pick her up.

I have never had any trouble getting my babies out of the fixed rail cribs. Until they started to pull themselves up, I had the crib base all the way up, so I never had to lean over. Once they were able to stand and pull themselves up, I just have to go in and grab them since they are standing up and waiting for me to come get them.

Apart from how annoying it can be to change the sheets, I don't have any cons concerning fixed sides.

1) Pros - Ummm.......

2) Cons - 3,520 incidents and injuries, including infants falling from cribs, skull fractures and babies getting their limbs caught between the crib slats from November 1, 2007 to April 11, 2010. 32 deaths.

I have always put safety over convenience. To each their own though

When we bought our crib I didn't even know there were drop-side cribs! We were told they were illegal in our state, and I've never seen one. I guess they used to be convenient, that's one pro. The cons must be too many as I haven't seen one in any baby furniture store I've been to. However, I do like the idea of the convertible cribs today. Buy the crib and the rails...convert to toddler/daybed/full bed over the years.
