Thanks for posting , Zimbo.

Does anyone else here write letters to their children?

I started when my daughter was born for a number of reasons - I'm an older mom (41 when she was born), my grandmother died when my mom was 23, a family member was recently diagnosed with a serious illness, we're a military family - seen a lot of children lose a parent.

I like the list, or at least most of it, but I find the one about the innocence of childhood and not to use slang to contradict.

Nothing takes me back to the age of 13 then hearing the phrase "grody". There is nothing wrong with teen or pre teen speak. It gives them their own language and no one speaks that way as an adult. Enjoy it now kiddies.

yes I do. I was 55t when I adopted my last 2 kids and have recently had some health scares so I have been writing things on the computer for quite some time. stream of consciousness things as Zi tried to write age appropriate letters to them but couldn't keep them in any organized way. So I figure what I'm doing is better than nothing. One sentence talks about makeup, the next about drinking and then I hop into not co mingling money.

I keep praying I will live to see them grown and beyond but I am also realistic. I want them to have something really "from" me no matter how long I live.

I bought some beautiful leather journals (from Costco, they sold them in a two pack). I'm planning on transferring my early letters into them and making "entries" going forward.

Not everything I write is "life advice" I'm also writing about the day to day things she does, and random memories of my own childhood.

My daughter was the result of a DE IVF cycle and I had a complicated (bedrest plus 4 month hospital stay) pregnancy. It was my 7th time being pregnant, etc.... I didn't have a shower and I was too anxious to enjoy much of my pregnancy (everything that could go wrong did). I received a "Baby Book" as a gift while I was pregnant but it just didn't seem to fit - so I started letter writing instead.

I've also started a charm bracelet for her with notes about why I bought each charm... I'm adding a turtle for her upcoming birthday. We're going to see Nana and Popa for her birthday. Nana was kinda disappointed that we're not having a girly/princess themed party but right now she's "into" turtles so we're having a turtle themed party.
