We have been blasted by the snow for the last couple of days so no hiking for us for a while. If it stops snowing the kids want to get the snowshoes out and go coyote hunting.

We should have put our snow shoes on the back of our hiking packs on this hike- the drifts up near the top were deep enough where we were postholeing a lot.. We did bring our Kahtoola MicroSpikes with us- they help A LOT on the ice covered exposed rock

I think we're gonna try the Gates of the Mountains area again this weekend.

Snow? What's that?

It's 80 degrees here in Alabama and just as lovely as can be. The warm weather definitely makes me want to spend more time outdoors, just about time for a trip to the lake.

A lot of locals who live near Disneyland buy yearly passes and do their hiking within the park. We did. It's a nice, safe, pleasant environment and on the days it's not crowded it's possible to really pick up speed. We had a route laid out that included Tarzan's tree house for steps.

Estes park and rmnp are amazing!!!!!! I found the coolest candle shop there.

Bryce canyon is also amazing!!!! We took the fairyland trail. I highly recommend it if you are able to hike a longer hike. Words cannot describe it. Just take lots of water!!! Lol

How cool! Thank you for sharing. I can't wait to take our daughter hiking.

I still have fresh memories of the families my husband and I came across on the trails many years before we became parents.

Get them out at any age! Our kids loved going for hikes as soon as they could walk (with some form of coordination, of course ).

I remember going to Emerald Lake at Rocky Mountain Ntl Park and my son was maybe 6.. He was counting the stone 'steps' aaaaalll the way up, and aaaalll the way back. On the way down, some really hefty folks were huffing and puffing their way up and said something like "How much longer?!. My son said "Oh it's only 140 more steps up!"

They were like

Wife and I are heading to Red Lodge MT tomorrow for the weekend. Kids are staying with friends. That's our first weekend out alone together in 13 years. Maybe we'll do some snowshoeing.. Maybe not.

I can guarantee I won't be posting pictures, lol.

If you've never been to Glacier NP I'd highly recommend going, and make it fast. What's left of the massive glaciers is going very fast. Here's this summer at Many Glacier's. They have a stunning lodge built in the railroad baron heydays. Simply stunning great lodge inside.

And this fall is a 3 mile hike from the Many Glacier Lodge. Apsalooka Falls if I remember correctly.
