Testing costs won’t hit till after, and could increase as much as ten percent.

NEW YORK - Someone is going to have to pay all the extra costs of making toys safer.

For now, toy makers and retailers are sharing the burden, but that’s only expected to last until the holiday season. Next year, American consumers will be facing price increases of up to 10 percent to pay for the industry’s increased vigilance after more than 3 million lead-tainted toys from China were recalled worldwide since June.

That means a $6.99 Barbie doll could go up to about $7.70, or a $70 child-friendly digital camera could retail next year for almost $80.

What a joke. Just another excuse to bil the public. Just like the oil companies raise the price of gas for every reason they can think of: its hot, its cold, its snowing, its raining, its summer, its winter, etc etc etc.

They should stop all goods manufactured in Chinese sweatshops from being imported into this country. And I don't buy that everything would be more expensive if American made. Somehow this country survived just fine and were able to afford American made goods in past generations.

The general public being raped by big business in the name of the almighty dollar once again.

The whole reason Chinese goods are cheaper is because they are made in sweatshops under terrible conditions. You benefit from cheap Chinese labor the same way you benefit from cheap illegal immigrant labor or people prior to the civil war benefited from slave labor.

But it's okay and not at all immoral, because the whole purpose of life it to aquire more stuff!
