Our HS doesn't. That is reserved for graduation night. After prom is hosted by brave parents, and usually involves one of those boy-girl sleepovers that has been brought up before in a separate thread.

Our afterprom is a huge event. Huge. It's at the HS - there is a DJ, food, beverages, casino tables...this year they had a putt-putt course as well as a bounce house type things brought in. There are doorprizes throughout the night. Good stuff. Concert tix, dorm fridges, spa packages, longboards, bikes.....it's a very big deal. Kids love it. Parent love putting it on. Win-win. They have an open house before the kids arrive, so that parents can come and see what the theme is and check out the decor.

That's exactly how my kids' school did after-prom as well. DH, who can stay up all night (I can't) helped at the event for several years; I helped with decorations.

This is what our school does too. A very large majority of prom-going kids head there after the dance...apparently going to private after parties isn't the "cool" thing to do these days, at least at DD's school. Which is good, IMO.

Yep. That's the whole point. Afterprom is cool enough that even kids who don't attend prom often attend the afterprom.

That's almost exactly what our graduation night is like. What happens on graduation night by you?

My school had an "all-night chemical-free graduation party", but not an after-prom event. I asked my sister about it (a senior at the same high school I attended, 7 years my younger) and she said the same.

Did her own hair and nails. Our prom tickets were around $50, held it at a Hilton. Flowers came from a local shop, don't remember them being over $30. Dinner I think ran me $50. So yeah, I'm still not understanding a $1000 average.

That sounds like our "sober grad" party. We didn't have anything like that after prom.
