I personally think it is a good idea. But how many guys (or girls for that matter) would walk out the door without taking one, especially if around their friends? Never knew some people think prom first time sex is a right of passage. Just think of how much pressure this attitude can put on a teen.
While I would consider myself realistic and practical where sex is concerned, I don't find this appropriate.
Kids of an age to go to a prom, are also of an age to know about sex and to know where to buy condoms. I don't think prom night is the time or place for sex education. If they haven't gotten it by prom night, then too bad.

Too bad? Really?
Are they receiving a sex ed class at the prom or are condoms merely available there?
I don't see how this is much different than the pledges many high schools have the kids sign for promising not to drink and drive on prom night.
When did sex become this apparently necessary part of going to prom?
I was in a store fitting room once when a bunch of teenage girls were trying on prom dresses. The style at the time was short, very tight dresses, lots of sparkles and sequins. I could hear the girls laughing and making comments about the dresses they were trying, and then one of them said, "It's so hard to get in and out of these dresses! Don't the people who design these things know what people do after the prom?" Followed by gales of laughter from the other girls.
I think it's rather sad that Prom has now become synonymous with getting overly drunk and having sex.
The high school I was at had condoms freely available, and there were no teen pregnancies that I was aware of. I don't believe educating about, and having birth control available encourages teens to do anything they weren't already planning to do.

I don't think it's anymore so then 30 years ago. This mythical 'losing virginity on prom' still persists in our culture however. While i am sure it does happen, i can't say i've met anyone who waiting till prom to do that specifically. I think you will get couples who already engage in it to do it, and they have already have been using or not using condoms. So really it's not going to help them much if they already engage in risky behavior as it is.
How isn't it? You're assuming all prom is about is kids having sex.
No she is assuming it doesn't hurt for them to have them in case a few teens happen to do it out of the blue, and reduce the risk. Plus no one watches porn on the tv anymore, this is the 21st century, get with it .
