My 29 yo daughter sleeps with her flat lovie inside her pillow case. It was made by her step sister and has always meant so much to her.

That it is!

I am in tears right now because I am about to surprise my own son (who is 29) with his own long lost lovie - not the original, but close.

When he was 4 he got a Mama and baby cat for Christmas. He named the mama, Kitten, and the baby, Cat. He especially loved Cat because he fit perfectly in a four year old hand.
Cat went everywhere with Matt. One day he took Cat to school and lost him in the cafeteria.
A few years later he got a Toys R Us gift certificate for Christmas and found a Cat replacement, only this cat had on a Santa hat and scarf. (I wrote a story for him about this new cat, and just why it was where it was - all alone on an empty shelf! - and he was one thrilled little boy.)
A few years after that I was babysitting a lot of kids during the summer. One of them took Cat home and he was never to be found again.

Fast forward about 20 years later and I finally found another Christmas Cat! Matt has never stopped wanting this lovie back.
I even updated the story (with pictures this time) and am giving him the cat and story for Christmas.

At the same time I also found two of his favorite childhood books about cats that he lost when our garage flooded.

Since I am finding all these childhood favorites I am making this a retro 80s Christmas for him. I'm hyping it up already and he thinks I am just kidding.
I am so excited about this that I had to share. (Hopefully he'll never see this post!)

tulani- sweet of you to do this for your boy but part of me knows a lot of this is for you as well. And that is perfectly OK. It is hard for us as parents to let go of our sweet babies even when they have hair on their chest, maybe not so much on their head and a life apart from us.

I certainly think you are right!

It's hard for mothers to watch their children's sadness and not feel the same. So, yes, I am thrilled that I found it for him.

My baby is 29 - mentally, behaviorally, 13 - huge, with hairy chest. He still lives with me (and believe me) he does act like a child.
