If the child is gasping, then she could not be sleeping soundly. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure an ill rested child is an ill behaved child. Or hyper. Or anything.
It is worth noting that adults with disrupted sleep are typically fatigued and slower during the day. Kids with disrupted sleep are restless and hyper during the day. Unfortunately many pediatricians overlook this behavioral difference and minimize the importance of addressing sleep problems because the child "doesn't seem tired"....
Yup. My now three year old used to snore. We did a sleep study and he had severely obstructed breathing. Had his tonsils and adenoids removed. Sooooo much better. We used to hear him breathing down the hall. Now he's nice and quiet.
It can also be a sign of reactive airway dysfunction.
