At some point, a child may absorb enough negativity that they embody it (whether intentional or not).

We have a young relative that has been raised to be extremely materialistic. He says terrible things about people being poor. It's a direct result of his upbringing and what his parents have taught him. I correct him when I hear him, but it's in one ear and out the other. At some point, this has just become him and he will be just like his parents.

Same thing with other undesirable traits - even though it may be taught or just modeled - at one point it just becomes them. I feel bad for them. It's hard to think they're "bad" but I do know who I don't want around my home or my own kids.
