But it's ok for a father to do so?

This. My ex and I had an amicable split. Our children were teens, two in high school. They decided to stay with their Dad. I was offerred a job making $20,000 more in another state. I had put my career on the backburner for years..as a wife and Mother...I took the job. My kids were fine with it. My ex was fine with it.

The judging from others....adult female friends of my ex took my daughter out shopping, and gave her gifts. Obviously, they felt badly for this young girl, "abandoned" by her Mother. I talked to my daughter every day on the phone! She was not abandoned!

I don't worry about what others think...but it was obvious, even my own family acted like he was a saint...and I was the sinner. Fine. Whatever.

Weren't about to let your kids hold back your career anymore, huh? Atta girl.

Sorry, but this is just appalling.

I love this. Can I use it? It's a great response to those who are offended by judgement.

Makes a great sig line, too.

The question is would you be as appalled if it were the father?

I would be appalled, yes, but not as much. Motherhood is different.

Dead beat fathers is also a shame. But somehow a mother abondoning her children for a new life somewhere far far away just leaves a bad taste in peoples mouth. Some friends of ours divorced and she took one kid and left her youngest 7 year Old behind. She left becauce she met a new guy on the internet. A 15 year old might understand but how can any mother leave for purly selfish reasons that only benefits herself in the long run.
