Is it typical for 8 year olds to throw tantrums and scream at adults who are trying to teach them?
Are you talking about an occasional meltdown or regular behavior? In public or at home with parents?
I don't think it is unusual for an 8 yr old to have an occasional meltdown - especially at home rather than in public. If he or she is throwing tantrums as a "normal" course of business I'd wonder what needed to change or be addressed.
No 8 year of mine is going to get by with screaming at me. That's a big no in my house. Eight years old is a little too old for temper tantrums, they are normal of course for 2 and 3 year olds, not so much for 8 year olds.
Is this when you're sitting together doing something like homework or teaching a skill?
My kids do this to a certain extent, especially with homework. It has something to do with their anxiety about learning but also feeling embarrassed that they don't know something they think they should know. They might get flustered and impatient and lash out.
They also sometimes just don't want to be hassled.
But no, an 8 year old should not be throwing a tantrum of any kind.

Thank you. I agree.
An 8 year old will only keep having them if he is allowed to, I will say no more.
