Even if he his displaying some overly impulsive or disruptive behavior, he should have a teacher who can manage and deal with it appropriately. If he has a teacher who wants a class full of children quietly coloring or doing art projects, I can see why she's overwhelmed. Before jumping the gun on diagnosing your son, I would first see if he could get another teacher, or another school if necessary. Especially if you said there were no problems or complaints four months ago with a previous teacher.

My inclination would be to change him to a school that has a playground and goes outside almost every day. Also, in a new school, he would be unlikely to be in a class that was less balanced as to the genders of the students. While it does sometimes happen that you can a class with a lot of boys or a lot of girls, most schools try to get close to an even balance.

My understanding is that Head Start is a preschool program for low income families.

Boys have a harder time sitting still when they are young. He is old enough to be evaluated for ADHD if you feel that may be the issue. It is amazing how much one teacher can interpret a child's behavior from another teacher.

Head Start does kids with low income and kids with disabilities and children in foster care regardless of the income of the foster family.
