Do Parents Know About The Popular Drug "Suzzurp" aka "Purple Drank"? (son, school)

My son came home from school yesterday and asked me about "Suzzurp" aka "Purple Drank", the drug that allegedly put rapper Lil Wayne in the ICU. I didn't know much about it, but as it's in the news thought it worth discussing with kids.

It's a mix of any cough mixture with promethazine and codeine + soda + jolly rancher

Codeine is a highly addictive opiate.

why would anybody think to combine these ingredients in the first place? I think we need to stay on top of these things to warn our children.

My son asked if it tasted good, I answered that it probably does just before the seizures start.

OK-you made me laugh out loud. Literally. Not just the internet LOL. I actually laughed out loud. My son asked me what I was laughing at so I showed him your post. HE laughed out loud also. He also said he had not heard of it yet.

Edited to add: His friend just walked in and he knew what it was.
