That may be... but that's just not who she is. She isn't this sweet loving person you romanticize about. If she was, she would've apologized the moment you told her that it hurts her son's feeling.

Irish, I am curious to know what your counselor says about your wife's behavior and what insights have you gained from the sessions.

There is a difference between "speaking one's mind" and hurting people's feelings. More importantly, she needs to figure out why she hangs on to 18 year old resentments and anger to the point where it is acceptable to her to hurt someone she loves. The past is just that: the past. It can't be changed. Why is she hanging on to it? It's long past time to move on and live in the present. Actually you should ask yourself the same question irishfan.

It's repressed anger according to the counselor. This anger that feels( felt) robbed of the totality of her " young" years gets taken out on him and I.
