I hope it goes well. Remember not to set your expectations too high though. Change takes time especially after years in a set pattern.

I got her to go to marriage counseling. She only went to get me to “ stop badgering her”. She was in a bad mood before we got in the building. Although she complained about being “ shown off”, she certainly spent a lot of time getting ready. She got to the doors of the building, looked at me( I was behind her), rolled her eyes and walked it. She told me “ a gentleman would’ve beat me to the door and opened it for me”. The counselor wanted to talk about the early years of our marriage and our situation of me being at school. She told him the stories I’ve told you guys( playing with him all he wanted, climbing and kissing on her at ND, cake for a week). When she was working, she would have her mom or her friends watch him.
The counselor concluded that she was a very loving and caring mother who only wanted to give her son the best childhood possible. That being said, he said that because she was ( kind of) a single mom, she was in charge and when I came home, she wasn’t ready to give up control and has fought me ever since. She was mad at me for missing big events in his life( all the firsts a kid has. Events that I wanted to be there for). I was called “selfish” for going to school. I calmly explained that I was at school so that I could provide a nice lifestyle and be where I am now. I told her that I really wanted to be there for those big events and those visits to Notre Dame meant a lot to me.

Wait... a counselor told you that you were SELFISH? That just sounds wrong.

That's nice getting the past out, but what about now...

Irish, did she express unhappiness about your schooling at the time? I am wondering if this is an excuse. So she can have a side to the story that is more than just her being a controlling cow.

Good point. Also want to add that she obviously snowed the counselor. I am pretty sure that several posters suggested you attend private counseling, and I think it's a good idea.
