May not be true everywhere but it is possible in many areas of the United States.

I allowed my sons to join soon after the BSA made this announcement.

I have 2 sons that went through scouts. The oldest is an Eagle scout and the youngest was a Gay in Scouting.
Being gay has not been a problem with scouts, throwing it in every ones face is the problem.

Our gay son is now in his early 30's and scouting played a big part in his life.

And young men don't need young ladies in their troops. It's where the boys learn a lot about becoming men.
Boy Scouting is one of the best programs Boys can participate. My Eagle Scout has backpacked about 2/3 of the world from what he learned in scouts.

I do also. Just let everyone join whatever group they like. Coed should be a choice not forced.

If allowing boys into a girls organization came up, people would cry foul and say how important it is for girls to have a place to be comfortable without boys. And what is Girl Scouts for?
What would be the point of calling it Boy Scouts if girls are allowed in?

Just call it Scouts and get with the times (and the rest of the world).

Why should we have to change just to "get with the rest of the world"? Is it so bad that cultures are different from one another?

You don't have to but why not? When other cultures do things differently (and possibly better) why not try it?

If you reread my post that is exactly what I said to start with.

Single-sex groups can provide awesome experiences for girls. If a particular scouting group isn't providing legitimate scouting experiences, there should be solutions other than a mixed-gender group. Mixed-gender camping can lead to all sorts of problems, as I saw when I travelled as part of a summer camp as a young teen.
