Some of you may remember when I spoke about my cousin in the restuarant thread. I visited them last weekend and was astonished at what my aunt and uncle would let him do. We went to a restuarant and they ordered him a bowl of rice with beans. He then proceeded to play with or like sand, make towers out of it, all on the dinner table! I was mortified. They just stood by and let him make a war zone of the table. He continually screamed and they just made empty threats. The plans are based all around what the two year old wants to do, and if not, a gargantuan tantrum was to be had.
Does anyone else fear for how some children that they know are raised?

I doubt anything can be said that hasn't already been covered in your previous thread. Maybe you would be better off making other dinner plans.

Some kids are really tough. I know it's messy for the kid to do that but for that one instance, applying discipline might result in a tantrum. You'd have to pick between two evils.

Some times you have to pick your battles.

Isn't that what is supposed to happen when you discipline your child? If you don't disclipine them for fear of a tantrum then more tantrums occur regardless of whether you discipline them or not. The child in this situation learns that a tantrum is his backup plan to prevent discipline from occurring....

I'm more talking about the raising of the child then just restaurant scenarios.

No.

I've seen too many kids who came from totally horrid, dysfunctional families grow up to be great people and outstanding citizens.

Rule #1 for when your family isn't doing what you think they should be doing: unless the kids are using their knives to torture their fellow diners... MYOB.
