It really depends on the area you live in . Around where I live it's about 12 an hour. But in my friends town which is an hour or so south it's like 7-8 dollars an hour.

In our area, the going rate is maybe $30 per hour if you're just starting out or only working for the family occasionally to $50-$60 per hour if you're working for the family everyday or have a lot of experience.

That seems reasonable for such an expensive town.

What?? Where do you live that someone just starting out gets $30 an hour and who the check can afford it. If I had to pay rates like that, we would never go out. Going rate here is $8-$10 per hour. I pay $10 hour and I have three kids.

Holy cow! Neighborhood teens here sit for $2-4/hr. either per kid, or, situation. We moved 1700+miles from my parents, but, I trusted my neighbor, the only one family to watch my kids when I was told I'd be arrested if I didn't serve jury duty, or brought my kids. Sad.

Hmmm, so you didn't trust a teenager asking only $2 to $4 an hour to baby sit your children?

That was the pay that many teens got 30 (or maybe even 40) years ago. Are you living in a time warp?

I believe the above poster said $2-4/ per hour, per kid or per situation.

I had a similar discussion with an on-line mothers group I participate in and mothers here paid anywhere from $3/hour - $10/hour.

15/hr is the going rate here in Boston, not many do it for less than that and $15/hr is quickly becoming the value rate. We have 1 kid, I would imagine it would be closer to $20 if it were 2 kids. That's just for hanging around. If you want the sitter to actually do things (change diapers, bathe them, etc.) it would be more.

My daughter gets $20 an hour on Friday or Saturday nights and about $15 an hour any other time. That is for one kid, no cleaning, etc.
