My daughter gets excellent grades and has been the top of her class since she started.
Outside of school, she is a brain dead moron. She can read books well past her age but can't follow simple directions at home.
Point is, gifted at Z does not mean gifted at A-Y

I hope to God that she does not have a clue that that is what you think of her.

Any other comment would get me permanently banned.

Can't? Or won't?

Been trying to think how to comment.

Perhaps some general information:

When people of any age or gender feel upset, or highly stressed, or pressured, or that someone is watching them and judging them, or thinking ill of them, they become significantly less able to think rationally and physically clumsy. It's normal.

When they feel supported, encouraged, appreciated, and that their mistakes will never be a big deal, they can think clearly and quickly and creatively, and learn new physical skills easily.

So, to a certain extent, intelligence is affected by the observer.

(TBH, I should keep this in mind more when I am supervising people at work. I do give a lot of heartfelt encouragement and appreciation, but I tend to do too much of the watching with an eagle eye, too.)

Lol, uptight people.
She's the happiest child you'll ever see.
I'm brutally honest. I'm not going to hold back for anyone or anything.
The fact is I can tell her to go get the yogurt she asked for out of the fridge and eat it, she will look at me like I have 6 heads.
She is incapable of listening. Selective hearing if you will.
But give her a book and she will read it quick and actually know the material.
My statements are an example. Lighten up.

I agree with the poster that said this was a spat between two sisters. I can not comprehend adults going over the interlect of three year olds. Let kids be kids, Their true genius will shine when they are adults. This thread seems unnnecessarily catty to me. Are we to sit here and judge a kid smelling of breast milk? Really? Seems immature to me. Like another poster said let them battle it out in a car seliing lot later in life

I have seen this thread for days and I thought you meant the mom wanted her child to get gifts!

A pet peeve of mine is seeing parents drill their kids. Like they can't just have conversations with them; they have to EDUCATE them constantly. And I can tell that the children sense this on some level because they refuse to cooperate with the aggressive parent.

Poor kid! Can you imagine trying to live up to those expectations?

I glanced at the title of this thread and pondered it for a bit. After a while, I came to the conclusion again that if you're child is gifted, than they are gifted right out of the womb or not gifted at all. Sure, you can sign your child up for all this ridiculous "toddler enrichment" stuff, make them watch educational videos, and enroll them in academic daycares/preschools, but none of this will make your child gifted, nor will it run them nine yards in advance once they start actual school. These preschools talk about "your four year old son is not paying attention or sitting still in circle time, we should schedule a meeting with a psyhciatric specialist" and then the doctor suggests your son should be medicated on Ritalin/Addarall so his four year old mind can focus better.
Really, when I was four years old, I wouldn't have wanted to sit in a circle and listen to boring things that I forgot that night. I would've much rather been outside playing kickball or some other sport, or playing on the new playground. The modern schooling system forgets that these boys don't have ADHD, they just need to get their little boy energy out with physical activity. Unfornately the bereaucrats who make these ridiculous laws contemplate that cutting PE and recess will surely improve tests scores, which are a whole nother ball game.
