I am sorry to hear that. For someone to just contract skin cancer that avoided over exposer is a rare case, there might be other contributing factors. I don't know, never spoke to your father or any physician of his. That information you have to get all from him.
I know I have no indications or signs of it and I'm well in my 30's. No cases throughout my entire family either and we all practice the same life styles.

They take a controversial or random topic and dissect it from both ends and declare which side is "BS". The newest episode is all about vaccines. The show takes a comedic and in your face kind of approach, but they do present both arguments and try to pick them apart.

Some of the more interesting things they covered that were presented by the anti-vaccine crowd were:

- Components of vaccines and the "weird" ingredients like "mouse brain". They actually broke down what they were used for, how common they were in the environment and why they were in the vaccine.

- Thimerosal was covered including exactly how much mercury is involved. Turns out eating a single tuna fish sandwich exposes you to 3x the amount of mercury that is in all recommended vaccines combined.

- Pharma company profits was also touched on and it turns out that vaccines are a relatively small business. Less than 2% of pharma revenue comes from vaccines and less than 1% of profits. They don't do it for the money.

- They investigate the Wakefield study and it's subsequent debunking and touch on increasing rates of autism being do to expanded diagnostic criteria and the creation of the autism spectrum. This one I thought was interesting as their source was an autism specialist at a major university hospital who has an autistic child. He pretty much debunked the entire vaccine causing autism argument and laid out the reason the rates are increasing (expanded diagnostic criteria and better understanding of the condition).

Not that it's going to sway anyone but they interview leading people in their field and allow them to present their cases and manage to do it in an entertaining and humorous if somewhat callous way. I know it's available OnDemand, so folks may want to check it out.

Yea, I watched this and there were no facts of evidence to go either way on this. This show was garbage and had the worse people to represent the side against vaccine. Come on Jenny the rest of the angry mob still grieving and her doctor? Nice finishing touch at the end too might I add!
Now to burst your bubble, the vaccine business is a MULTI BILLION DOLLAR industry. They do do it for profits! they would not produce a product of the investors did not make any return. Do you under stand business? I actually have my MBA from UIC, so if you need a lesson I'll be happy to give one. This is why this show is to detour the facts and back big pharma. One of my good friends is a phara sales rep. and I do know it is one of the most profitable industries. He pulls in 6 figures and is in good with a lot of doctors that push his products.

My thoughts exactly, you believe what your being told by companies that are making a killing off of you. Not to mention the FDA and the CDC. Major conflicts of interest with the drug companies but you just can't see the facts or just ignore them all together because in your mind no way can a goverment agency tell lies or have false motives.
Just go on in your life having someone else tell you what you need to do.

Now I'm not saying every agent is corrupt but literally over half are.

If you read the studies look at human life then and look at it now just with the living conditions.
Also you really need to read up and study every angle about polio. How the vaccines actually caused an outbreak and how right now there is a huge problem with it in other countries. All from the vaccines.
Do you know WHY smallpox is not being given today?

Because -- wait for it -- vaccines work!

Go ahead.

Read something besides the tinfoil hat nonsense you've been spouting here. Vaccines are the single greatest reason people are living longer and healthier lives today. Without them youe throat would close over from diphtheria. Your babies would break ribs from whooping cough. Older children will become brain damaged from measles. Pregnant women would give birth to mentally retarded fetuses damaged from rubella. Your liver would rot from Hep B. Small babies would die from Hib.

As for polio if you'd done any reading at all besides the stupid websites you've been posting from here you'd know that polio only exists because anti-vax nuts started preaching against it in Nigeria. A disease on the way out is now in the third world again.

Nice work.

Well my dad is 62 and he, like most men, enjoyed golfing. He put sunscreen all over but didn't think to put it behind his ears. Now he has to have part of his ear removed. And it's really not a rare case, doctors see it a lot.

You're kidding right?

Why are we supposed to get upset that companies that make a product that literally prevents disease are making money from doing so?

I suppose you think the homeopaths, the purveyors of Chlorella and chelation, the sellers of unvetted herbal products -- you think they're giving it away for free?

Go to any of the anti-vax websites. Hey try that loon Dr. Mercola. His idiot site literally has hundreds of links to products he is trying to sell you. Do you think your beloved Andrew Wakefield -- a quack in every sense of the word -- treats people for free?

Wipe the crazy off. Your brain will thank you.

Great post !

On memorial weekend I visit the cemetery of my ancestors.

Many of them died young in the early 1900's from things that are no longer a threat today.

I am thankfull for vaccinations.

How short a memory some people have !

LOL That reply was in reference to another stating the companies make little to no money.

I don't care if they make money or not, this is America. What I do care about is conflict of interest. Everyone is out to make a living selling their goods or what not. Just like the pharmaceutical companies, they have investors that they need to please as do I.

Let's see.

The estimated annual death from diptheria before vaccination was about 21,000. Now it is 0.
The estimated annual death from Hep A before vaccination was about 117,000. Now it is about 11,000.
The estimated annual death from Measles before vaccination was about 531,000. Now it is about 60.
The estimated annual death from Mumps before vaccination was about 162,000. Now it is about 1000.
The estimated annual death from Whooping Cough (pertussis) before vaccination was about 200,000. Now it is about 14,000.
The estimated annual death from Polio was about 16,000 (of course that doesn't account for those who lived but were permanently crippled). The rate is now 0.
The estimated annual death rate from Rubella was about 47,000. Now it is about 4 or 5.
The estimated annual death rate from Smallpox was 29,000. Now it is 0.

::looking around at the citizenry in general::

Y'know, maybe Americans are too quick to vaccinate. A little herd-culling might not be a bad thing.
