Pot seems to be something people grow out of. You rarely hear of someone growing out of cigarettes; it's an addiction that generally progresses for the worse.
I've been trying to get my dad to quit smoking cigarettes since I was three. Very sore subject
Cigarettes are much worse. By the legal trends and survey results it appears that people are coming around to a more rational view on marijuana.
Just because people want to decriminalize it (and I am fine with that) does not mean it is acceptable for teens to use, ever. Alcohol is not criminalized but it is still not acceptable (for most people) for teens to partake. Same for marijuana.
Which of these situations bother you more? Your 18 year old kid smokes a pack of cigs a day OR smokes pot twice a month? Consider everything else (grades, disposition, mental health, relationships, work ethic, friends) the same.
Pot leads to stupidity and possibly dangerous behavior if the kid drives while high.
At least with cigarettes, maybe the kid will mature one day and quit. The same can be said for pot, but in the meantime he can do a lot more damage to himself and others than he could with cigarettes.

Cigarettes would both me more if they only smoked pot a couple of times a month.
