I do understand why the OP hesitates. Since she's a hypochondriac, she constantly second guesses herself and resists the urge to go.

However, given her son's recent mental history, she needs to go!

I would not only be concerned that the stool was bloody, but that such a young child had been having diarrhea for three days straight. OP, take him to the doctor.

I think you should call child protective services, tell them what's going and that you don't know if you should call a doctor, and to please advise.

But the color of his stools is worrying me. Its loose, yellow with blood traces. After being in hospital with him, I also had diarrhea.

Is this normal?

Should I sit it out or take him to the doctor? If so should I take a stool sample?
He's 4. He can miss school without any repercussions.

If you haven't made a doctor's appointment by the time you read this, you need to question whether you're prepared to act as a parent to this little boy.
