I have to say that I am really relieved to read the responses to this thread. My oldest was so vain about her hair that she shampooed (ie: showered) everyday, my next in line got teased in the 5th grade and has showered everyday since then. It is my youngest that has made me wonder. She is 13 and will take one when I tell her to, but will not initiate the showering herself. I was beginning to wonder what the problem was...lol. Sounds like she falls right in the norm for many teens.

Since it gets hot and dusty here, mine liked getting a bath or shower sometimes too many.

When I was a kid I was taught to wash my hands before dinner. Other than that, I liked being dirty. My older sister taught me a trick: If you put your pajamas on, no one will tell you to take a bath. It worked, too!

We had a friend across the street who had to go home at a certain time in the evening so she could take her bath. Every night! I thought maybe it was because she was Catholic.

I started taking more frequent showers in my early teens, but didn't shower every day until I got a job at 16.

I forgot, but possibly after 8 or 9. I always loved taking a fresh shower and cloaking myself in deodorant and still do the same. Never have to be asked. Only problem was that I always walked out of the bathroom door naked . Thankfully, that changed once I started growing body hair.

Today, I am ashamed to take my shirt off without spending 4 hours in a waxing salon because my body hair is so thick . Additionally, my body odor sucks so I often have to shower twice a day and always carry a can of cologne in my backpack. Cant live without it.

your kids will only take showers when they have the motif to so, and that motif is to impress the opposite sex. you might have some waiting do to, dad.

Default 12.5

Funny I should come across this thread today. My oldest, 12.5 took a shower this morning without being asked for the 1st time ever! My 9yo probably hasn't bathed in a week!

And when mine are told, they drop their shoulders like they were just told their puppy died.
That's a good question...probably when they get to the age where they're becoming attracted to other girls/boys.
With the little ones, just a few plastic boats or fish swimming in the tub could be enough to entice them in....

Additionally, we sometimes HAVE to shower cold for religious occasions in hinduism to remain pure throughout the day. January was a tough time for me as a kid because I sometimes struggled to breathe after a cold shower in below freezing weather and that's when a number of religious functions happen.
