Well I'm in my 50's and this is the first time in my life I have ever heard about someone gluing razor blades to kids playground equipment. An this has only happened in one city in the entire world (East Moline, Ill).
So not likely to happen at your local park/playground unless you live near that area...
BUT this can be changed from something to be fearful of (lock yourself in the house and never come out) to something positive for the kids. That is to teach the kids to check the playground equipment themselves before playing on it.
Look for nasty goop or anything out of the ordinary on any bars that they would hold onto. And the best lesson is to check each piece of equipment for sturdiness - see that it will not collapse or fall when they climb on it.
That last part (sturdiness) can prevent accidents in later life. They will learn to check ladders and so forth before climbing on them.
But other than that, yes whoever did that was a sick jerk!
I did not post to cause fear mongering at all. It's impossible to shield our children from all the dangers in the world. As you pointed out, it's more important to educate them about various issues they might face and to be prepared to handle them.
Somebody poured acid down a slide at a park in this region not too long ago, and some poor kid got horribly burned going down it. The depravity of some people never fails to disgust me.
Just came across this post. Thought I heard everything and now this. If these were pranks by teenagers, I can't imagine
what they are capable of doing as they get older. What would be funny is to see these cruel pranksters in court or jail.
