Generally, I'll eat on the kitchen island alone (son is usually nearby). My wife eats with my son at the kitchen table, but he watches Youtube videos during his meal (he is extremely picky and skinny, so we get calories in however we can).
All four of us at the dining table, no TV. You can't see the TV from our dining table, but our kitchen/dining/Great Room are all one big room. Breakfast and lunch, the two kids eat at the island normally.
My problem is that I just eat too fast! I can finish my meal in about 2 minutes and then I want to get up and leave, or start cleanup. For my kids' sake, I stay and talk for a while after I eat.
Couch...TV on
Actually DD has her dinner early, too early for me to eat. She is only a toddler. DH works nights. So basically I eat after she goes to bed at 8; on the couch.
We always ate together at the table...no TV. Once our daughter go into sports and there were practices, games, etc., we'd all grab Subway and eat together in the car.
On the deck if the weather is good. In the winter, during week nights, always with TV on trying to get the highest score on jeopardy. Fridays and Saturdays, who knows who is home and when, so wherever. Sundays we ate family style somewhere, grandmothers, restaurant, picnic at the beach.
We certainly don't meet the no tv or else stereotype but the kids still love to play jeopardy and eat dinner with the rents when they come home from college.
Depends....When the kids were growing up we typically (though not always) ate at the table with no electronics. At this point it is usually just the two of us. If "stuff" is going on and we haven't had a chance to connect then at the table with no electronics; something newsy going on we might have the TV on. Tonight we ate while watching Jeopardy - we were in the car together yesterday for 7 hours so no need to chat over dinner tonight. Nice weather will have us eating outside soon. Hopefully. Once the snow melts.
Sometimes in the living room...sometimes at the table....just depended on our schedule and what we were eating.
I am just glad that we didn't have to force talking to each other over dinner at a table by making it a rule. That just seems so formal and sad from the outside.
The kids are 8 and 10 and we almost always eat together at the kitchen table with no TV and no electronics. Between work and homework and sports, we have limited time all together so dinner time is precious. The conversation isn't forced and it isn't formal if it is just what you do every day.
