My brother in law also said the same thing. Guess who is now pregnant at 17? His daughter.

When time comes, I do know I will strongly encourage my son to look elsewhere for serious, as well as not so serious, relationships. He will have plenty of opportunities.
And by "girl power" you mean the feminist movement, which enabled to attend university and work outside of the home?

I just watched his mumbled recitation on YouTube. Googling the 'poem', I saw the pics of the guy, and thought that he looked exactly like the kind of 'Dad' other 'Dads' fantasize about having secret trysts with at bass fishing tournaments and coaches' conventions. But after listening to him, I think he sounds like precisely the sort of 'Dad' who carries on with other 'Dads' at hunting camps, at vintage car shows (a biggie, now, apparently), and in the bushes off the jogging trail. I'm not begrudging these guys their little outlets. Just my impression of the dude.

But the piece might as well have been named 'To the Asian girls who will get the best American Boys (Here's why girls like my Daughter won't stand a chance.)' . That's because it totally portrays the mentality of the impotent little nobody who raises his Daughters to be spoiled, useless, entitled, witchy little PRINCESSES who are fates worse than death. Those girls grow up to be troublemakers, perpetually incensed that the world does not recognize their right to make the lives of men miserable (with impunity). A girl like that fictional Daughter is angry and perplexed that the whole world fails to recognize that she is the Center of the Universe.

Back in Mississippi, there used to be a parade (and a cult, of sorts:http://www.amazon.com/Sweet-Potato-Q.../dp/0609804138 ) full of middle-aged Princesses reaffirming their "specialness" and "fabulousness". They were called the "Sweet Potato Queens". They'd get drunk, act obnoxious, glorify being parasitic abusers leeching off men, and basically get to be, for a day, Daddy's Little Princess, twirling around in a puffydress with everybody saying "OH, how CUTE she is!!!" - all over again.

I suppose that little failures at manhood have some need to perpetuate the flawed dynamics of their own backgrounds. So, instead of raising their Daughters to be capable, competent PERSONS, they raise them to be toxic little black holes of neediness. If you've ever had to deal with a woman like that, then I think this guy is a pretty good portrait of the kind of guy who had a hand in shaping her personality.

And I have to wonder if the need of some 'dads' to raise "Girlygirls", instead of raising People, does not arise from some secret wish that they, themselves, could be girls. Maybe, even, at the core of their being, they secretly see themselves as being girls. Anyway, Sexual Dimorphism is more prevalent among less intelligent populations. Androgyny is more common among high-IQ populations. Black Teeshirt Dude's little rant is so very Blue Collar/Gray Collar. Smarter people have little need to raise 'All-boy Real-boys' and 'Pretty Precious Princesses'.

Alternately, the 'poem' could be called, "To the boys who will be dating my boys (because they figured out that dating girls is a game they cannot win)". One of my Gay friends tells me that he was taught, at an early age, that girls can do anything they want to boys, and boys can't retaliate. "Sounded like a really sick game, to me. And I was NOT going to play that game."

My dad wasn't into the macho possessiveness stuff. Neither are we. We have a son and daughters and treat them the same. No princesses in a tower at our house.

I'd love to have any boy date my daughter. Couldn't be worse than my POS son-in-law.

My daughter's boyfriend broke up with her (to the tune of fanfare including tears and girl drama) and I was livid with the boy...How could he break up with my kid, who I spent many years raising? But I decided to find out both sides of the story. The boy was an honor-roll student with a good family and a part time job, perfectly fine. However, it was my daughter who drove him away, sending him way too many text messages, saying "I love you" too soon and etc.

Sometimes it's not the boy who is the problem in adolescent relationships. Sometimes it's the girl...Shocking, right?
I would say more than 'sometimes', especially when the girl turns into a woman. It's no longer shocking to me, more like a puzzle that shouldn't be touched.

I am talking about women old enough to decide. I don't think living on your own is the prerequisite for being sexually active. Women in their late teens/early 20s, who may still be in college, need to be able to make their own decisions on whether they will be sexually active, and with whom. Paying for college or living expenses does not mean that parent owns the adult child and all of the adult child's decisions. There may be strings attached to college tuition money, but that money should not be tied to sexual activity.

Why would having sex with her mean a man took advantage of her and had to answer to anyone? It's an archaic and corrosive attitude towards women to say that anyone having sex with her is taking advantage of her.

Good lord---where did race come into this discussion? This is insulting on so many levels.

don't be surprised if the daughter goes into porn like miriam weeks. these parents think their kids are angels or will do this or that and then one day, they turn around and do 100% the opposite. 2 million americans in prison. tens of thousands are girls and even more are on parole. do you think those girls were angels too deserving of protection? i haven't even mentioned the willing drug users who fly below the radar. this "dad" talks theory to look "cute" and "awww, isn't that so nice?" when he should know real life is very messy and ugly.
