His friends with the bunk beds have tons of sleepovers so I guess I just need to get it out of my head that bunk beds provide the ultimate sleepover experience
I threw pillows and blankets on the floor because there was usually multiple kids sleeping over at once. Kids have a blast on the floor. My kids slept there too. When there were too many kids for their bedroom floor space, we threw the pillows and blankets on the living room or den floor.

You mean kids actually SLEEP at a sleepover/slumber party??
We have bunk beds for our kids. They are now 5 & 6 and we've had them for two years. They have a full bed on the bottom and a twin on top. They both have a set in their rooms.
Thanks everyone. Sounds like probably not the best idea to buy for a 5 th grader. We thought about the trundle bed too- they can be separated so the kids aren't sleeping exactly side by side, I believe. He has a full size bed and we have just been using aero beds for sleepovers ..... Kids seem happy enough with it. Eh they kinda do.
My brother and I had our own rooms as kids but he had a bunk bed, idk why, anyways I liked it more than him and we used to hang up blankets over the front and make a fort out of it.
I was an only child when I was a kid, but I always wanted bunk beds. My mom refused to buy them for me though, since it was certainly unnecessary. I saved up my money for a long time, and eventually was able to pay for them myself. I was in 5th or 6th grade when I got them. I used them until I moved out of the house! And then they were passed to my (much younger) little sisters.
My kids got them when they were 3.5 and 6. Single over full size. They are still happily using them, 3.5 years later. They don't need to share a room; they do it by choice. Their friends all seem to think they (the bunk beds) are super cool. Not sure when the cool factor fades, haven't reached that point yet.
I never wanted a bunk bed, but my sister did. We almost got them. Thank God that never happened. My husband wanted one, but her has a sister. I was always afraid person on the bottom would be squished to death. I don't know where I got that outlandish idea from.
