As someone who is married to a Hawaiian man, and lived in Haleiwa for many years, and whose in laws live there still, I can tell you calling us "sweetheart" is NOT a cultural thing like "brah". It isn't Hawaiian or pidgin and it is not appropriate to pretend it is Hawaiian culture.
