Our child is 15/16 months old. We don't have many friends with kids and you know everyone has their own thing going so it's hard to have baby dates. Besides preschool what other ideas are there for having her interact with other kids.

When she sees another baby in person or on TV she always gets excited, points to him/her and babbles ("moh" is her current word of choice) so we feel she really wants to hang out with other babies.

YMCA swim class for her age
Mommy and Me at the Little Gym (or whatever chain is local for you)
Check your local park district for classes too.

Check if your area has a Moms Club. They organize playgroups, fields trips etc... Could be a good option to meet new friends!

local playgrounds could be good as well.. we have a township park right down the road from us and there's always kids our daughters age there with the same capabilities... our daughter is 16 months old as well. No matter the age of the kids though, we feel it's good for her to see kids her age and some that are older as well. Lots to look at... lots to hear... lots to do... and best yet, it's good exercise for her and it helps tire her out at the end of the day so going to sleep is easy peasy!
