It seems we all agree that success is based on a combination of talent, hard work, luck, and initiative. What we don't agree on is how important each of those factors is. No use in debating it any further, in my opinion, since none of us are going to change each other's minds.

I think some times you have to be the tiger, and some times the beta......the trick is knowing when and how to balance!

I definitely agree that finding the right balance is important in all areas of life. But to me, the term "tiger" in this context implies a lack of balance.

The type of parenting described by the OP can be detrimental to a person's career. If you teach your kids to settle for "good enough" because it is too much trouble to be excellent that will change a person's career success. But that doesn't mean that the tiger person is happier. Again, there is no one definition of "success".
