Your vena cava will be fine. Don't read TOO much. Cave women who didn't even know what a vena cava was managed to keep the species going. Just roll back over and get your rest.
^^^^^ I agree with this! ^^^^^^^ Just use some common sense and get some sleep. You can ask your mom or grandma if they ever worried about their vena cava while they were pregnant. Don't worry so much...just enjoy your pregnancy.
Thanks, I've read up on it a bit more and am a little less stressed. A lot of the time I just end up on our super-comfortable couch because I can sleep in a semi-reclined position and don't wake up at all! I'm almost 26 weeks which feels like a lot but then I think "14 more weeks to go...shoot." :P
Quit reading all of those books written by "experts", a lot of them are men and have no idea what it is like to be pregnant let alone sleep while one is pregnant.
I used to sleep on my stomach in our water bed without the sheets on it because I was so hot. The bed was cool and it was the only way I could get any sleep at all and I was at least 7 months along.
I slept on my stomach until it became uncomfortable. Now, I start on my left side but my hips kill me so I have to switch sides all night. This is my third and so far my kids have turned out fine Get what sleep you can now because it only gets more difficult. I think I actually get more/better sleep AFTER the baby is born. At least I can get a couple solid hours instead of waking every 30 minutes to toss and turn or use the bathroom.
OP, I was told you'll wake up and shift position if your circulation becomes impeded.

I'm 52 and still practice that.
Well, if you're pregnant at 52 you've got more problems than what position you sleep in.
I often slept on my stomach also. I had so many pillows in the bed that I just sort of propped up whatever need propping up to be comfortable and didn't worry about it.
Just sleep anyway that's comfortable for you....and enjoy that sleep cause once babys born, sleep will become an extremely rare pleasure.
I sleep just fine. :P I actually sleep better now than I did during end-stage of pregnancy.
OP, later in pregnancy I made it a point to sleep on my left side and in the best position to facilitate optimal fetal positioning. I'd often end up on my back at different times during the night, though. I also used a body pillow, which was great.
Bahaha I agree with that...pregnancy prepares you for the sleepless nights, I definitely slept better after my first was born, she started sleeping 6 hours through the night at 2 weeks old, it was heavenly. Hopefully this little guy is as cooperative as she was
It's funny. I was a real stomach sleeper until I was pregnant the first time. After practicing the left side sleeping, I've been unable to go back to stomach sleeping every since (nearly 12 years ago). I also bought a body pillow during pregnancy and became addicted to it. Now, when I don't have it (during travel and such), I cannot sleep soundly. You can make new habits. Just keep at it.

This is what I was told and what happened for me, also. I'm not as far along as the OP, but about 4 weeks ago if I was flat on my back my arms and legs would start to go numb and I'd wake up.
I have my back sort of half on the solid side and that seems to do the trick. I haven't had any trouble sleeping, actually.
