Now back to the subject: I recently heard that children are likely to think like their mothers. Men might want to think about this when they marry. Brilliant man with a good future sees pretty girl who doesn't have the highest I.Q. He falls in love with her and they marry. Children are good looking but not the brightest children in their class. Dad makes a fortune and children spend it. It happens all the time.

Another statistic: Children of mothers who run a well-managed home are usually more successful and become CEO's.

As someone who grew up in a university setting, I encountered a lot of not so smart kids with smart parents.
At MIT they even have a club, "Stupid People At MIT" (SPAM) for legacy admits of faculty kids.

I dunno, I'm not a parent, but I did excel academically and have a successful white-collar career. I would be more concerned with whether my kid was a good person or not rather than whether they were going to win the nerd Olympics.

How would it feel to have a daughter who wins trophies at cheerleading competitions instead of science fairs?
So you're saying that football players and cheerleaders aren't intelligent? That policemen, plumbers and porn stars can't possibly be intelligent?

I sincerely hope you don't have children.

My kids aren't into the "average" things you listed. My kids, the boy and the girls, train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. They're mostly into writing, drawing and computers.

My second daughter is gifted, and my eldest is very bright and hard-working. Their father, my first husband, has a genius level IQ. He's brilliant and talented, both in terms of academics and intelligence and creative/artistic pursuits. And guess what? He was in the military for 12 years, four years as a classically trained musician, and the remaining working in the intelligence field. He was damn good at this job. And now, he works as a mail carrier for USPS. He likes his work, and that's what matters.

And my current husband is also gifted, and went to university for engineering before dropping out and eventually getting his AA in Liberal Studies and pursuing his life's passion in martial arts. Could he have done more? Perhaps. He parents thought so, but that wasn't the path he took, and he's happy with that.

We'll support them in the path they choose, even if it is, as you state, "average." We want the to be happy, healthy, compassionate, and productive members of society.

Many intelligent people choose to do other things than go into a STEM career.

Happens a lot. Called regression to mean. No big deal.

I wanted my children to be happy and successful however they define it. If they are good people, then I have done my job.

And BTW, my Science Olympiad winning daughter was a cheerleader, sprinter, and competitive swimmer. Now she is entering dental school. She is not a genius but is intelligent and creative and a very hard worker.
