That has not been my experience with Freecycle here (or in the other two places where I lived and used it).
Sure, some people do not come and pick up, but in general when that happens, I have more people in line. Also, I get thank yous all the time from my freecycle recipients.

Of course, I never put my address in the post - only in the reply when someone says they want the item or items, so they only know the address after that. Also, I ask them for a date and time when they will come and if they don't show at that time and don't email a reason, then the next person in line gets the items.

Might be location. I did it in a big, not especially friendly city. I didn't give my address until pick up was agreed.
