In the video, the doctor shows how he folds a baby's arms across its chest, then holds the child with one hand around its chest and one hand under its bottom, gently rocking back and forth. It takes just moments for baby Ashton, who'd just gotten a shot, to stop crying.
Eighteen years ago when I had my first, the doctor told me similar, except the baby could be in a sitting position. Fold the arms in gently and rock them around a bit. It worked pretty well. Maybe the butt jiggling would've made it 100%.
I'm really not concerned about calming a crying baby (we have a baby at our house right now). It's how to calm a 5 year old who is having a terrible meltdown that I am curious about.

This is something you need to work on before the meltdown happens in general. Individual children need different techniques once a meltdown is in full force. Does he have special needs?
Amazing that something soooo many parents already practice went viral.
Probably because it's a pediatrician showing it....I guess, for some, it might be enlightening.

If you pick her up and jiggle her butt around, she might be so shocked she'd stop.
I'm kidding... kidding!!
