I was driving to Canada from New Jersey about two weeks ago.
I was pulled over in New York by N-87 thruway by police patrol car. I was given a speeding ticket for driving 103 MPH in the 65 MPH zone and reckless driving.
My court date is Febuary 2 in Westport court New York which about 270 miles each way from my residence.
Is there any way that I can prevent driving to the court ? I don't want to drive that far.
I'm willing to pay the fine but the cop marked the section that states , I must appear in person to the court for my reckless driving.

You should probably hire a lawyer for that particular ticket, at least that's what I'd recommend to someone in TX so I'd guess the advice is valid elsewhere. The lawyer will tell you if you'll have to appear in court.

Brings me back to my youth. I was 18, and got a similar ticket.
The reason you must appear in court is because it's not a civil infraction, it's a misdemeanor offense that will give you a criminal record, and possibly up to 30 days in jail.
My recommendation to you, is get a lawyer and plan on making the trip.
I had to get a lawyer and did appear in front of a judge. I got a break and was let off, but I took that as a lesson and 18 years later haven't gotten another ticket since. legal bill was $2.5K. That alone makes me drive nice and slow these days.

103 is a bit fast. Slow down. Drive safely. People's lives depend on it.
So you have to travel 270 miles...if you drive 103, it should take you just under 3 hours. If you travel at the speed limit, assuming 65, it will take about 4 hours. I suggest traveling at or below the speed limit.
You have to appear in person, because you may be sentenced ...yes, it's that serious.
Hire a lawyer. Pay the attorney. Pay the fines. Serve whatever sentence is handed down. Slow down. Drive safely. Lives, including yours, depend on you driving safely.
You know, some of us are driving safely with our children in the car and would prefer you drive safely too. You might not care about your life but if you could please get your head out of your butt and care about the lives of our children, that would be super.
Take the fine/punishment and stop being a jerk. Thanks.
Do you realize reckless driving is a misdemeanor (not just a traffic violation, but an actual criminal offense) in NY? Going that much over the speed limit in a lot of states means jail time. This isn't something you can just pay to go away.
