I don't really like to think of anyone's "temper tantrums". They aren't really funny or amusing. They are kids disregulated to the point of not being able to self soothe, not example of kids being naughty or bratty.

When I was little, I was REALLY over tired. My BFF stopped by to see if I could go to some really cool event. My Dad said no. Did I mention I was really over tired? I cried for like 10 minutes.

No one implied anything about being naughty or bratty.

Somebody posted this link to "Why is my kid crying" on FB not long ago. Some of these are pretty funny to us as adults, and it's sometimes hard to remember how big kids' feelings and emotions are to them, and how coping is something that really is a learned skill.

My son was a World Class Tantrum Thrower.

I mean, seriously. He would throw himself to the floor and start threshing his arms and legs and screaming at the top of his lungs.

This last from ages 2 all the way through to about 5 or so.

He used to do it in the store when I said No.

I used to just walk away and leave him there, on the premise that No One would abduct something that is making so much noise.

He'd get up and run after me, hiccupping and groaning. Never did get what he wanted but Boy did it take him Years to Learn.

Or amusing or funny. They are times of extreme distress for the child.

Meh. Years ago, when we were in Dallas, we made a trip to a nearby state park and told the kids we'd get to see dinosaur tracks (which we did). My son, being the logical thinker that he is, naturally assumed that if there was dinosaur tracks, there had to be real dinosaurs there too, right? The realization that live dinosaurs were not part of the package hit him pretty hard, poor kid.

We still (him included) chuckle over how angry he was with us that we were unable to produce any actual dinosaurs. Thankfully he's able to laugh at himself.
