Insurance cannot disallow you from going to the doctor if you pay for it yourself.

I don't understand why your pediatrician is not doing a simple eye exam when he goes for regular physicals. Our pediatricians always did this, and it's been 20 years since mine were that age.

Like Pittchick says, in many cities there are programs for testing very young children. Here in Savannah area, the Lions Club I belong to has free vision screening. If you call around, you might find a program near you.

What ever you do not wait until age five to have insurance pay it just to save $100 or so. Sheesh!
BTW, neither my health insurance or my husband's health insurance ever covered eye exams or glasses and that did not stop us from making sure that all of us had regular eye exams & check-ups with an ophthalmologist.

Twice a year, like clockwork...AND if he is sick. Don't be so quick to assume. Good day.

Didn't assume anything... just wondered as you did not mention a pediatrician checking his eyes.

And you did not say if the pediatrician ever checked his eyes...

Well, have you asked the pediatrician?

curious why you would need to go 2x a year if not for a sick visit.. After 18 months or so, my kids have always been told to come back annually so we typically go within a week of their birthdays..

And most preschools, we've been in 4 in 3 states always have hearing and vision tests for the kiddos and even in crazy CA wasnt that expensive.. Also, I think from 3 or so well child check, the pedi started doing hearing and vision tests as well so I say, dont worry, he will be offered the test soon enough or just ask your pedi on your next visit

Different pediatricians do thing differently I guess. We still do twice a year visit until the 3 yr old well check. Then it's annual well visit.

Ours also start the eye check at 3 yr well visit. So OP, your pedi will probably give your son the eye check on the next visit.
