I have 5 children- all grown and to the best of my knowledge none of them ever put their heads into a noose. In fact when they were about 5 and watched movies like "Hang Em High", they would have told you that was a pretty dumb and stupid idea!

I am parent and you know I am damn well right about this. I mean even little kids know things like don't play in front of trains, don't drink boiling water, don't stick your hand in the fireplace and don't stick your head into a noose!

Well, not that I don't agree with you for the most part, but when I was in junior high school, we played this game without nooses or anything that even seemed dangerous. I only did it once and really didn't care for it. We had NO idea how dangerous it really was. You lean over and hyperventilate for several seconds and then stand up quickly, while someone holds you against the wall to cut off your circulation. You basically pass out. Some kids would have really funny reactions which is why, of course, we were stupid enough to try it. We really had no idea about what the heck we were REALLY doing. Kids who wanted to show off did it in class sometimes when the teacher was out.

Kids can be pretty dumb. Not much you can do about it sometimes, but show them the right way, and pray they make it through to adulthood.

Even that is dumb but probably won't kill you. Sticking your head into a noose however is about the dumbest thing I ever heard of. And the OP says the kid was 13 and a 13 year old ought to know better than to do something like that. Like I said my kids all knew that nooses kill you when they were quite young. Many kids do dumb stuff like smoke, drugs, drive too fast and try to do stunts on bikes BUT to stick your head into a noose..... really dumb. That is like shooting yourself in the head to see how it feels.

that was really mean. Kids want to be 'cool'- and do stupid things to reach that goal. IS it dumb, yes, should they know better, yes...but this is someones CHILD and they are heartbroken and may never get over their loss.

We all did dumb things as kid - some dumber than others, but being like that (as an adult) is really inappropriate.

An overwhelming majority of the victims are boys because of the masturbation factor. If the kid is found naked and has porn mags lying on the ground...its a simple case of autoerotic asphyxiation. If it were truly just a kids game, kids would be doing it with other kids, which would hopefully prevent the accidental death. Most masturbation is done solo by boys at that age...and hence the passing out and accidental hanging. Those poor parents that find their kids....first the shock of the death...then the shock of porn and masturbation. And then having to explain it all!

The word "victim" is sure being watered down.
